Wishes and Dreams: Iran’s New Generation Emerges focused on young, contemporary artists working in Iran. This exhibition featured 30 pieces including photographs, collages, videos, and installations. Many of the artists looked to their historical past when creating these objects. Their work demonstrates a desire to preserve symbols and beliefs, but they also wondered about their future. The status of women in the country was a common theme.
This exhibition was forged in partnership between Meridian International Center and the Tehran University Art Gallery. Nancy Matthews, former Meridian Vice President for Arts and Cultural Affairs, worked with Dr. Sami Azar, former Director of the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art, to curate this exhibition.
Wishes and Dreams was on view in Washington, D.C., New York City, and Daytona Beach, Florida. Part of the exhibition was also on display at the Washington National Cathedral in partnership with the Cathedral's Center for Global Justice and Reconciliation.
