As a Knanaya, Cecily Koppuzha was expected to marry within the family’s close community. Her parents at first did not approve of her relationship with Lionel, but soon saw that he shared the same Catholic values. Their wedding—which was attended by guests from as far as Puerto Rico, Canada, and India—took place at St. James Catholic Cathedral.
