The Hindu Temple Society of North America in Queens, New York, hosts a nine-day festival to celebrate the birthday of its main deity each year. As the parade begins, a processional murti (image) of Ganesha is brought from inside the temple, placed in a silver chariot, and pulled through the streets for all to see. More than 10,000 people take part in the festivities.
