Meridian’s Council on Women’s Leadership Congratulates the 3 Nobel Peace Prize Winners

The Council on Women's Leadership of the Meridian International Center congratulates Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Leymah Gbowee of Liberia, and Tawakul Karman of Yemen on their selection as the 2011 recipients of the Nobel Peace Prize.

We wholeheartedly concur with the Committee's citation that ʺWe cannot achieve democracy and lasting peace in the world unless women obtain the same opportunities as men to influence developments at all levels of society.ʺ The Council is particularly delighted that women from two different continents and from different generations are this year's Peace Prize winners.
