It is my great pleasure to present Pacific Pitch: U.S.-Japan Baseball Diplomacy<\/em>, the most recent exhibition curated by the Meridian Center for Cultural Diplomacy.<\/p>\n

For the past 39 years, Meridian International Center has created neutral environments that encourage cultural collaboration and international understanding, where individuals from all levels of society can find common ground. The Meridian Center for Cultural Diplomacy (MCCD) engages audiences around the world through compelling exhibitions, forums, educational initiatives, and exchanges that forge more stable relationships and foster genuine respect.<\/p>\n

Pacific Pitch<\/em> highlights sports diplomacy between the United States and Japan through baseball \u2013 a national pastime in both countries. The photographs in this exhibition show how Americans and Japanese have bonded from the 1860s to present day through friendly competition. Throughout our history, baseball has played a pivotal role in bridging our two cultures and building the strong alliance our countries have today.<\/p>\n

I would like to offer my sincere thanks to the Public Affairs Staff at the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo for their vision in this creative partnership. I am also grateful to our co-curator, Dr. Sayuri Shimizu Guthrie, for her insight and expertise, as well as to Robert Whiting for his guidance and in-depth knowledge on the subject.<\/p>\n
