Skateboarding started in Southern California in the late 1950s by renegade surfers who wanted to take their sport to dry land. Early skateboarders practiced their skills anywhere they could, and this rebellious spirit is still associated with the sport today. Skateboarding and skate culture have caught on in China, which is now home to the world’s largest skatepark in Guangzhou.
