The World’s Columbian Exposition, celebrating the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus’ landing in the Americas, exposed over 27 million visitors to new technologies, the first Ferris Wheel, and international cultures. The India Building showcased textiles, carvings, religious artifacts, and other objects. In addition, wealthy merchants from Calcutta exhibited varieties of tea, which visitors could sample.
