The Pacific Ocean theater played a significant role in World War II from 1942 to 1945. Here, I-Kiribati retrieve Ensign Ned Barrett, a U.S. Navy pilot, after he made an emergency landing with his seaplane in their lagoon during the Gilbert and Marshall Islands Campaign.
