Project HOPE (Health Opportunities for People Everywhere) was founded in 1958 as an international health care organization and has since served in over 100 countries. On its maiden voyage, SS HOPE—the world’s first peacetime hospital ship—traveled to Indonesia and Vietnam, where its volunteer medical staff treated patients with limited access to health care and health education.
