Meridian International Center to Present Inaugural Global Leadership Summit in Conjunction with The 44th Annual Meridian Ball on Friday, October 12

Washington, DC. – On Friday, October 12, Meridian will host a Global Leadership Summit in partnership with Gallup and the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center convening a cross-section of international and domestic policy-makers, corporate and diplomatic leaders, and members of the media. This Summit will take place in conjunction with the 44th Annual Meridian Ball, one of the most prestigious annual events in Washington, DC. Co-chaired by Mr. Jay L. Johnson, Chairman and CEO of General Dynamics, and his wife Mrs. Sydney McNiff Johnson, the Summit and Ball combine Meridian’s traditional Ball with a day of substantive dialogue, exchange, and networking.

The Summit will explore how critical issues of the day are increasingly resolved through cooperative global solutions. Speakers include: Frederick W. Smith, Chairman and CEO of FedEx, David M. Rubenstein, Co-Founder & Co-CEO of The Carlyle Group, Jim Clifton, Chairman & CEO of Gallup, Ambassador of India to the U.S., Her Excellency Nirupama Rao, and Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to the U.S., His Excellency Yousef Al Otaiba. The day will include a presentation and release of Gallup’s Global Leadership Audit, and panel discussions on The State of Global Leadership: Where We Are Now; Why Cooperation and Collaboration Matter in a Globalized World; and What a Good Global Leader (and Citizen) Looks Like in 2020.

Following the Summit, Meridian’s annual Ball and accompanying Ambassador-hosted dinners at 24 embassies and residences around Washington will offer the opportunity for guests to gather for one of Washington’s annual traditions. Now in its 44th year, the Ball is presided over by Honorary Chair First Lady Michelle Obama, Congressional Co-Chairs Irene Hirano Inouye and Kristi Rogers, Honorary Sponsor Ambassador Capricia Penavic Marshall, Chief of Protocol of the United States, and White-Meyer Co-Chairs Loran and Robert Aiken and Ashley and Matt Bronczek.
