Secretary Clinton meets with a group of women religious leaders from Jordan and MIC staff.
In what was surely the highlight of their two-week program in the U.S., twelve women religious leaders from Jordan had the honor of meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Hilary Clinton at the U.S. Department of State. Meridian International Center organized the visit of the Jordanian women religious leaders to the U.S. as part of a program sponsored by the U.S. Embassy in Amman. The goal was to provide the group with a view on the role of religion in the United States and how religion can play a role in community development. The leader of the group from the Ministry of Awqaf Islamic Affairs and Holy Places shared the views of the delegation, when she said, “it was a great opportunity to meet a woman who has achieved so much throughout her life. As women leaders ourselves it is an inspiration to us all.”
The delegation spent one week in Washington, DC with visits in Baltimore, MD and then visited Chicago, IL for an additional week to meet with American religious leaders and local interfaith institutions focused on community development and outreach. The Jordanian women religious leaders delegation is an example of best practice exchanges conducted by Meridian’s Global Connect division for public, private, and government sector clients in the U.S. and abroad.
